Size Matters

Bad reviews kill a good product. No passionate business owner wants a negative review. Especially when they are avoidable.

A few years ago, we changed the packaging of our product, Blackrock Leather N Rich. The label was redesigned and we started using new jars and lids. It was a complete rebranding.

While the look changed, the product stayed the same. We still follow my grandfather’s recipe to make Blackrock, but after decades of looking a certain way, this change led to confusion.

To avoid this confusion, I could have done a better job explaining the new look. I’ll try to explain it here. 

Our old jars were double wall plastic jars. Double wall plastic jars are containers made of two separate pieces, an outer piece and an inner piece. It is a jar within a jar. This design allows for an added layer of protection. If the outer piece breaks, the contents are still protected by the inner piece. 

This style of container is used to make products packaged in small amounts stand out against products packaged in larger amounts. In our case, we were bottling in 4 ounces, but with the double wall jars it felt like you were getting more. 

I wanted to provide a better representation for our product. Now, Blackrock is packaged in a clear, straight wall jar. The jars are still 4 ounces but since the jar is made of only one piece the new jars have a smaller profile. 

As shown above, side by side, the old jar looks slightly larger than the new one. However, they both are 4 ounce jars of Blackrock. 

Made in the U.S.A. 

All the pieces we use to package Blackrock are Made in the U.S.A. This is something that I am proud of and I will continue to support.
